Niche insurance company specialising in mid market, recently expanded into SME providing comprehensive solutions for the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) market. As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Underwriting Manager to join our dynamic team.

Job Summary:
We are looking for a results-driven Regional Underwriting Manager who will be responsible for overseeing and managing the underwriting operations within a specific region in the SME market. You will play a critical role in driving the growth and profitability of the company by leading a team of underwriters, developing underwriting strategies, and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.

**Responsibilities**:

- Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of underwriters to achieve individual and team goals.
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining a balanced risk portfolio.
- Evaluate underwriting processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
- Collaborate with other departments such as sales, marketing, and claims to ensure efficient and effective underwriting practices.
- Assess risk exposures, analyze data, and make sound underwriting decisions based on established guidelines and risk appetite.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activities to identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and key stakeholders to enhance business growth and retention.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.
- Provide training and support to underwriters on product knowledge, underwriting guidelines, and emerging trends in the SME market.

**Requirements**:

- Experience in underwriting within the SME market, with team leader/managerial experience. Or the drive to move into a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products, underwriting principles, and risk assessment.
- Proven track record of achieving underwriting targets and driving profitability.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using underwriting software and other relevant tools.
- In-depth understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements within the insurance industry.
