The Alstom Ballarat team are incredibly excited about our newly created vacancy, that aligns deeply with our ethos of supporting local talent and providing opportunities for those eager at the start of their career. Focusing on the mechanical remit of our production process, the newly created position of a **school-based Apprentice - Mechanical Fitter, **will provide a motivated individual the opportunity to obtain part time employment with a global leader in rail manufacturing.

This role will supplement your trade-based learning, create a pathway for future career opportunities and introduce you to a vast network of professionals from a range of specialisms. We are seeking interest from school-based individuals currently undertaking a relevant electrical trade qualification and a genuine desire to develop their skills in the rail industry.

Under the close guidance of a qualified and supportive team (supervisors, leading hands and mechanical fitters), you will learn how to undertake tasks within the mechanical field on the assembly of the train for the X’Trapolis 2.0 project. Based on your trade school curriculum, some of these will include:

- Using standard work procedures, hand & power tools
- Installing & assembling railway vehicle components
- Perform precision fitting of engineering components
- Removing and replacing defective parts and components.
- Working as part of a team to ensure results and identify improvements ideas
- Conducting manufacturing, engineering or related activities

**We are looking for you to have;**
- Maths pass grade
- Mechanical aptitude consisting of great appreciation for accurate dimensions and measurements & well developed coordination of eyes and hands
- Regard yourself as someone who is committed, able to follow instructions and can communicate and work well with others
- Willing to undertake block training at TAFE to work towards Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade).
- Certificate II in an Engineering or Technology field would be highly regarded

You will be required to be based at the Ballarat site 2 days per week, Monday and Friday 7:00am - 4:30pm (2 days, totally 18 hours/week).
