**The Role**

Expressions of interest are sought from engaging and suitably qualified and experienced Library Assistants to assist the Teacher Librarian to provide a high quality library service for staff and senior students at the Larkin Centre (coeducational years 11-12).

The Library Assistant will:

- Provide a high quality, welcoming, responsive and proactive library service for staff and students
- Assist the Teacher Librarian in the supervision of students, including assisting with group activities and encouraging a learning environment of cooperation, collaboration and mutual respect.
- Perform a range of library tasks, including processing, stocktaking, preparing display materials, using circulation systems, general photocopying, laminating materials, clerical and administrative tasks
- Answer basic reference and information inquiries
- Prepare teaching aids under the direction of the Teacher Librarian
- Provide technical support to staff in relation to the library services and systems
- Assist in promoting and publicising library services, new acquisitions and events

The successful applicant will have:

- relevant qualifications
- relevant library experience, with an understanding of school libraries of benefit
- a strong customer service focus, with the ability to develop positive relationships with young people and staff
- effective ICT skills, including proficiency with Mac computers, and experience with Spydus would be of benefit
- effective interpersonal, written and oral communications skills
- effective organisational skills
- a sound working knowledge of library equipment
- ability to build effective work relationships as a member of a small team
- a commitment to student care and wellbeing, including a commitment to child safety, demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children with diverse needs and backgrounds
- a valid Working With Children Check and be eligible to work in Australia.

**Hours of work**

This is an ongoing part time (0.8) position working four days a week, 8am to 4.06pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
