Located in Preston, Victoria, The Salvation Army Bridgehaven centre has an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Residential Rehabilitation Program dedicated to helping women address Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) issues and transition to healthy independent living. The centre also supports women who also have accompanying children.

The Maintenance Team Member’s role is to ensure the property is kept to a standard which will provide a positive and welcoming experience for residents, workers, and visitors. The primary focus is to develop and update facilities under direction of the site manager to create a safe, tidy, and aesthetically pleasing environment.
- Key tasks and responsibilities
- Using a keen eye for detail and a desire for high standards, undertake general maintenance activities which will include painting, cleaning of structures, small repairs to property, buildings, furniture and fixtures as directed by site manager.
- Always use appropriate personal protection equipment and conduct activities in a safe manner at all times, ensuring others involved in maintenance activity do the same
- Keep children safe by always abiding by Salvation Army’s child safe policies and code of conduct
- Qualifications and skills (desired/required)
- Desirable to have experience in a similar role
- Must have experience in building maintenance and repairs
- Capabilities and personal attributes

- Background check requirements

Background checks play an important part in our commitment to being a safe organisation. Where an applicant has disclosable history, the selection process includes a fair assessment and a risk management approach. Collection of personal information is handled per our privacy and confidentiality policies. Below is what is required for this role:

- As this role may come into contact with children who are residing or visiting the site, a Working with Children Check/Working with Vulnerable People Check is required
- As this role works closely with people experiencing vulnerability, as well as requiring access to property and equipment, a Police Check is required
- Training Requirements

One of the many ways we care for people is by ensuring our workers are well equipped with the necessary knowledge to complete their role safely.

To successfully undertake this role, the following training is required
- Category B training: Foundational training which includes an introduction to The Salvation Army, code of conduct training, work-safe and child-safe practices. Volunteers will also need to complete extended child-safe training.
- Work Health and Safety (WHS) considerations

We take Work Health Safety and well-being seriously at The Salvation Army. We want to ensure volunteers are fully informed and aware of key safety considerations. For this role, key considerations include (but not limited to): For Covid-related considerations, please refer to the

- As this role requires use of power tools, it is important that electrical testing and tagging is regularly undertaken by a qualified tester and tagger
- Some tools may pose an injury risk, so all instructions on safe operation of tools must be read and understood
- Before each use, ensure all equipment is safe, stable, maintained and working correctly
- To control the risk of trips and falls, ensure walking areas are kept tidy and clean and areas mid-maintenance are cordoned off
- Important to always ensure proper use of PPE and the PPE condition is maintained to a high standard
- As some tasks may involve others, make sure all people are abiding by safe work practices and instructions
