Principal Disaster Response and Recovery Officer

The opportunityAs the Principal Disaster Response and Recovery Officer, you will: - Assist the department in preparing for, responding to and recovering from, natural disasters. Provide support to the representative of the Department in the state's disaster response and recovery processes. Provide specialised advice and recommendations on natural disasters and assistance to the Manager Disaster Operations including preparing and/or providing timely and well-researched complex reports, briefing notes, submissions and verbal briefings and presentations to senior leadership and internal and external stakeholders as required. Drive evidence-based disaster and preparedness policy and program development. Provide support to the Manager Disaster Operations for the department's responsibilities about disaster assistance schemes. Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with key stakeholder organisations including government, industry bodies and primary producers. Lead and/or mentor team members to support the agency in meeting policy commitments and initiatives in addition to individual professional development needs. Represent the unit or the department in a range of forums including interdepartmental and stakeholder meetings as required. Develop and/or implement strategies and tools for the continuous monitoring and evaluation of the project/s including risk and contingency planning and management, benefits realisation and quality measures and standards. Develop and promote a culture of continuous improvement that facilitates positive project efficiencies and outcomes, constructive business relationships and engagements and mutually beneficial collaboration with key stakeholders. Undertake out of hours work and activities. Actively contribute to other program/policy activities as directed.
