Newly created executive position enhancing the quality of regulation within the building and construction industry.

With 5.3 million people currently living in Queensland and more than 200,000 of those residents working in the construction sector, the Queensland Building and Construction Commission has an important task in serving their customers, contributing to the growth of the Queensland economy and regulating the industry. As a regulator that builds trust and confidence in all that they do, the QBCC is led by the Commissioner and governed by a Board consisting of skilled expert staff who work hard to meet the needs of industry participants and the community.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Assistant Commissioner works closely with the Chief Building Regulator, Commissioner and Queensland Building and Construction Board (QBC Board) providing expert advice on licensing services and financial compliance and best practice. You will be responsible for leading the Commission’s licensing and financial compliance workforce and enhance the quality of the regulation of the building and construction industry. Additionally, this position has carriage of the Customer Contact Centre.

**Key Responsibilities will include**:
Effectively and strategically, lead the Regulatory Standards and Support Division, that contributes to a thriving and resilient building and construction industry.
Support the Chief Building Regulator and Commissioner in the delivery of the Commission’s overarching purpose to be an efficient and effective regulator to reduce risk and offer protection from harm.
As a member of QBCC’s Senior Leadership Team, provide strategic oversight and leadership of the Commission’s operations related to the Regulatory Standards and Support Division.
Identify emerging issues, risks and opportunities and provide timely, relevant, specialist information and expert advice to the Chief Building Regulator, Commissioner, Board and Minister that balances organisational requirements with desired whole-of-government outcomes.
Lead and oversee the directorate responsible for mínimal financial requirements and building industry fairness regulations, obligations and compliance.
Lead the licensing services function ensuring efficient processing, responsiveness to industry trends, safeguarding the industry’s QBCC licences and ensure it is a consistent transparent process, across each class and category of licence.
Lead the Customer Contact Centres and call centre across the state in the provision of efficient and effective services, that result in a positive customer experience.
Be the accountable Assistant Commissioner in accordance with the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018.
Provide support and attend meetings of the QBC Board and the Board committees when required.
Drive a holistic approach to service delivery, seeking to bring about improvements in service offerings and more transparent and consistent outcomes for the community.
Cultivate sound working relationships with relevant stakeholders including industry associations, community groups, and interstate counterpart organisations to promote a greater awareness of the Commission and its aims, foster a collaborative partnership approach, and keep informed of relevant developments.
You will possess exceptional leadership skills and can clearly develop and translate the Commission’s objectives, policies, and plans to internal and external stakeholders. Your unquestionable judgement, strong business acumen and astute decision-making skills, along with a dedication to excellent customer service are imperative to the success of this role.
You are an outstanding leader, who has analytical capacity, intuitive risk awareness and the decisiveness to achieve priorities within strict timeframes. It is a given that you will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills along with relevant tertiary professional qualifications.
