The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) Critical Workforce Register (CWR) has been established to assist us find great people who want to work on high priority work.

DVA’s Information Access Unit (IAU) is responsible for processing requests for information made under the _Freedom of Information Act 1982, Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988, Military Rehabilitation Compensation Act 2004, Privacy Act 1988_, administrative access requests, subpoena and other notices to produce information from regulatory agencies.

The IAU has received an unprecedented number of information access requests from veterans and families. We are building our capability to address the current challenges and now is a great time to join us as we embark on a program of reform and renewal. The IAU CWR provides an opportunity for Law students in their final year of study to register a general expression of interest for IAU roles that are available immediately as well as becoming available over coming weeks and months.

The opportunities will primarily be at the APS4 classification with employment on a non-ongoing basis for up to 12 months. Hours of work can be negotiated and fixed to incorporate study with work available in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra.

You may be contacted if your skills align to those needed by DVA, and as vacancies arise.

While the register is focused on IAU roles, please note it may also be used to fill roles in our Legal and Audit Division as vacancies arise.

**The key duties include**:

- Communicate with stakeholders and clients to clarify/review Information access request, seek clients consent, confirm authority and validity
- Conduct searches and document retrieval through various internal systems
- Preparation of information in accordance with the current methods of access such as Freedom of Information, Australian Privacy Principles, Administration Access.
- Manage and process request relating to personal and non-personal information access requests under the guidance of a senior officer
- Exercise delegation appropriate to role in accordance with legislation and guidelines
- Prepare information access hard copy and electronic release packs
- Resolve routine issues, refer stakeholders to appropriate business area and/or escalate complex issues to more senior staff
- Answer and respond to applicant enquiries about the information access process and conduct follow-ups when required
- Documents communication within the designated database
- Maintain and file records in accordance with information management process and security requirements

**Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
- All applicants must be currently completing their final year or have completed a Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution.
