Davidson Recruitment is collaborating with Astron Corporation to facilitate the recruitment of an Environmental Specialist for their Melbourne Office. In this role, you will report to the General Manager for Sustainability and work on the Donald Project, a Mineral Sands and Rare Earth Project located in Regional VIC. The position is based in Melbourne's CBD, with a monthly travel requirement to the Minyip site.

As an Environmental Specialist, your responsibilities include delivering external approvals documentation to meet licensing and permit requirements for the Donald Project, and undertaking necessary environmental management actions to ensure external compliance.

Your Key Responsibilities will be to:

- Review project plan and verify adequacy (suggest updates where required), for approval by manager.
- Maintain action tracker for tasks and review regularly with manager.
- Analyse data and the interrogation of technical findings including the use of GIS (simple navigation of existing webmap) to inform reports, approvals and for other purposes as directed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of environmental frameworks, policies and practices.
- Input to the development of strategies to meet targets and to encourage best practice.
- Manage compliance with environmental legislation and standards.
- Promote good HSEC practices within the Company and compliance with Company policies.
- Communicate with regulatory agencies to ensure common understanding of goals and timelines and manage deliverables to meet Project timelines.
- Commission and manage third party consultants to assist in the development of technical information to support development of approvals documentation and sustainability initiatives.

**Skills and Experience**:
**Environmental Approvals Expertise**: Proven experience in successfully obtaining environmental approvals for large, complex projects within the resources industry, with a preference for mining, or land development projects, specifically in the Australian context.

**Communication Skills**: Exceptional written and spoken communication skills are essential. You must demonstrate the ability to effectively liaise with project teams, regulators, and client representatives with confidence.

**Competencies**:

- **Regulatory Knowledge**: A working knowledge of Victorian and Australian environmental regulatory requirements, as well as familiarity with relevant environmental standards and codes.
- **Collaboration with Regulators**: Ability to collaborate effectively with regulators to demonstrate compliance and provide support for licensing processes.
- **Adaptability**: Strong initiative and the ability to adapt to tight deadlines, changing priorities, and varying workloads.
- **Attention to Detail**: Precise attention to detail and the ability to produce professional-quality deliverables on time and within budget, including conducting quality assurance reviews.
- **Supportive Aptitude**: Knowledge and aptitude to support project managers in project scoping and planning, subcontractor management, financial controls, and the preparation of scientific reports, particularly in relation to environmental engineering aspects.

**Qualifications, Licences & Work Experience**:

- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, environmental planning, resource management, environmental engineering, or a relevant discipline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Current Australian driver’s licence.
- 3 to 6 years of related professional experience in environmental approvals and project management.
