**_About the role_**
The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse is a Clinical Nurse Consultant with advanced knowledge of the health needs and preferences of men with prostate cancer across the continuum of care, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, follow-up and palliative care. The practice of the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse incorporates advanced knowledge and skills in supportive care, including providing specialised and tailored information and education, psychological support, and clinical care to men with prostate cancer.
The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse will be working in close collaboration across a multidiscipinary team to provide seamless and integrated care for patients with prostate cancer. The level of intervention by the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse will vary according to the complexity of care required, based on the individual need of the patients in their care. The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse is required to develop and implement a coordinated, evidenced based, seamless, patient focused approach to providing cancer nursing care. The workload of this position will be mainly self-generated, so the ability to effectively self organise and deliver your varying workload is essential.
**_ What you bring_**
- Demonstrated relevant advanced level of skills in cancer or urological nursing; or working towards prostate nursing certificate or cancer urology specialist qualifications.
- Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated clinical teaching and research skills
- Evidence of participation in and commitment to quality improvement and best practice principles.
- Demonstrated highly developed verbal and written communication skills necessary for documenting research, promoting awareness of current research and providing clinical services directly to patients/clients including competencies in advanced computer literacy skills.
- A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation
- The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
