**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
**To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 4 + at the commencement date of the role**
- The Neonatal Department of the Canberra Hospital is offering neonatal advanced trainee positions in neonatal and perinatal medicine, for one to two years (depending on individual training requirements). Applications are sought for neonatal advanced trainees with at last 1 year of neonatal intensive care experience.- The Department provides neonatal care to the ACT and surrounding regions. The Canberra Hospital has 3500 deliveries per year and is a principal referral center for high-risk pregnancies. It is the only tertiary care neonatal unit in the region, which has a delivery population of 10,000. The Canberra Hospital's Centre for Newborn Care has 700-800 admissions per year, 300 requiring respiratory support, with 16 planned intensive care/high dependency beds and 18 special care nursery beds. The department is supported by six Neonatologists, 4 neonatal advanced trainees, an SCMO, ten Neonatal Registrars (paediatric basic/advanced trainees) and 3 SRMO positions. Involvement in Neonatal research is recommended and highly encouraged.- The Neonatal advanced trainee will obtain wide experience in all levels of Neonatal Care in a well-supported and energetic environment. The trainee will gain experience with neonatal surgical cases (except cardiac surgery) as well as retrievals through NETS ACT (the local component of NETS NSW). Support with clinician performed ultrasound training is provided along with attendance at NICU Growth and Development clinics. Positions are accredited for advanced training with RACP.- There is an emphasis on the development of transition to consultant skills which include: undertaking ward rounds, participating in the in the after-hours on-call roster including being first on call for neonatology and NETS, high risk antenatal counselling, training in clinic performed ultrasound and participation in quality assurance, open disclosure, quality improvement and research projects-
The trainee will be responsible for ensuring discharge summaries are up to date and accurate as well as organising registrar rosters and journal club rosters.

**DUTIES**:
Under limited direction of the Unit Director you you will;
- Provide competent and efficient clinical management of patients of the ACT Health Directorate under the supervision and direction of Consultant Medical Practitioner(s). Clinical management will include acute admissions, in-patient care, outpatient clinics, inter-disciplinary consults, and clinical handover. Participate in the after hours, retrieval and on call roster.
- Work within and provide leadership to the multidisciplinary clinical team. Maintain a co-operative relationship with referral centres and other departments at the Canberra Hospital including paediatric medicine, paediatric surgery, emergency department, anaesthetics, and adult intensive care.
- Demonstrate progress in training in the specialty including participation in the neonatal teaching program and activities, timely completion of assessments and involvement in research.
- Participate in the supervision, training and professional development of junior medical staff including paediatric trainees, basic trainees and SRMOs.
- Contribute to clinical audit and quality improvement activities and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
- Maintain adequate and legible medical records and ensure that the clinical team completes discharge summaries and clinic letters in a timely manner.
