**Aboriginal Principal Practitioner**:

**About Us**

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system. Within the department, the Aboriginal Youth Justice unit focuses on designing and developing culturally responsive programs and policies aimed at young Aboriginal people.

**What does the Aboriginal Principal Practitioner do?**

The Aboriginal Principal Practitioner plays a pivotal role in enhancing the Youth Justice system's support for Aboriginal young people in Victoria. This position, a part of the Clinical Oversight and Rehabilitation Team, involves close collaboration with the Aboriginal Youth Justice Unit and Operations.

The role is crucial in shaping policy, strategy, and program responses, contributing significantly to complex case management, and participating in the Youth Parole Board. This position aims to advance early intervention, crime prevention, and rehabilitation efforts, in alignment with the Youth Justice Strategic Plan and the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, to improve outcomes for Aboriginal youth.

**What skills should a Aboriginal Principal Practitioner have?**

**To be successful in this role you will need**:

- Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians.
- Excellent knowledge of the Youth Justice Case Management Framework.
- Strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience, working with Aboriginal communities and advisory groups, including sophisticated and culturally aware stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to establish partnerships with and across both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal stakeholder groups.
- Experience of providing leadership regarding best practice for Aboriginal people.
- Qualifications or experience in fields such as community programs, youth justice policy, community engagement and partnerships, program support, youth work, community services, or health.

You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
