**Position Information**:
Oak Flats Public School is situated in the Illawarra region, with an enrolment of 490 students, including 40 children who attend the onsite Oak Flats Public School Preschool. Currently, 11% of students are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and 7% have a language background other than English.
At Oak Flats Public School, academic success for every student is our priority, supported by a strong foundation of positive wellbeing. Literacy and numeracy are at the core of our curriculum and quality teaching is based on current research, explicit instruction and effective assessment practices.
Student wellbeing is based on an understanding of relational psychology, with relationships the basis of students’ sense of belonging. Individual differences are celebrated, with effective learning support processes, positive partnerships and our commitment to meeting individual needs. This extends to a focus on high potential and/or gifted students, with strong identification processes and additional programs to meet specific needs.
Our school is committed to reconciliation, with a sustained and continuing focus on Aboriginal education, supported by our committed Aboriginal parent group and local AECG. We focus on maintaining and fostering our school as a learning community which values the partnership between students, parents, teachers and the wider community. This includes our strong relationship with our Community of Schools and our committed and highly engaged P&C.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary; and
- Engaged leadership that motivates and supports outstanding teaching and learning practices that is evidenced-based, builds capacity, harnesses collective efficacy and improves student learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated capacity and commitment to build positive relationships to develop a culture of inclusion, high expectations and positive wellbeing.
- Proven ability to build strong connections with all parents, teachers, students and community members, to strengthen a collaborative learning culture.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning- 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies**Conditions**:
