Assistant Principal Special Education

**Position Information**:
Waniora Public School (270 students) is located in an idyllic coastal setting in the northern suburbs of Wollongong. We have 10 mainstream and 3 support unit classes. Our school is an active member of the Seacliff Community of Schools and is located within the Wollongong North Principal Network. We enjoy a strong and productive relationship with Bulli High School (located next door). As a learning community, our school continues to be defined by our core values of respect, responsibility, and safety. We are fortunate to have an active and supportive parent community who assist the school in achieving its educational goals for students. Waniora Public School values inclusivity and is focused on providing a learning environment for students that empowers them as lifelong learners. Waniora Public School has 15 Aboriginal students who are supported academically, socially, and culturally to ensure that each student achieves expected growth, or better, on internal school progress and achievement data. A relentless focus on improving teaching practice through high impact professional learning, particularly in reading and numeracy will ensure that all teachers possess excellent content knowledge, can differentiate, and personalise learning, are proficient in their data usage and explicitly instruct leading to measurable improvement for every student. Our students will be challenged and actively connected to their learning through regular opportunities to engage in rich, open ended learning tasks across all areas of the curriculum.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated successful experience teaching students in a support class with a range of intellectual, physical, social and emotional disabilities. This includes the capacity to effectively manage the dual roles of exemplary classroom teacher and Assistant Principal.
- Knowledge of and successful experience implementing evidence -based wellbeing support systems and/or programs with the capacity to lead and manage student wellbeing and behaviour across the three support unit classes.
- Evidence of a highly visible, approachable and collaborative leader with a capacity to build and maintain inclusive and trusting relationships with the school leadership team, students, families, staff, external agencies and the wider community.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
**Conditions**:
All Department of Education employees working in an SSP are required to be vaccinated as outlined at Vaccination requirements for school sites (nsw.gov.au).
