Why this role matters

The Children and Parenting Support Service (CaPSS) is an Australian Government Family and Communities (Department of Social Services) program aimed at supporting families, strengthening relationships, improving the wellbeing of children and young people, and increasing participation in community life to enhance family and community functioning.

The CaPSS program is located in Sunshine, with practitioners delivering parenting support services and community programs out of the program’s Wyndham and Melton locations.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the CaPSS in a casual capacity as a Parenting Support Practitioner. This position will support the CaPSS program through co-facilitating parenting education programs and play groups for families. The position undertakes community development activities aimed at building resilient families and safe and inclusive communities across Melbourne’s outer West.

Responsibilities include:

- Work under the general direction of the CaPSS Lead Practitioner and Team Leader to co-facilitate evidence-based programs, workshops, webinars, parenting support groups and play groups
- Support families, in a safe and culturally respectful manner, to strengthen relationships and increase communication between parents/carers and children
- Work in partnership with local people, local agencies, schools and local council to develop innovative ways to address community priorities and demands of children and families

We currently have casual positions available. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award Level 5.

You will have
- Relevant experience in a social service environment supported by demonstrated sector knowledge and skills, particularly in the areas of children and families, or family violence.
- Degree qualification in social work, welfare, community development or related field is highly desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge of the current principles and practices related to child and adolescent development, including attachment theory
- Demonstrated ability to identify the main forms of child abuse and carer concerns as they relate to infants, children and adolescents, and the wider family.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the theory of intersectionality and how different aspects of a person’s identity can expose them to multiple levels and layers of discrimination and marginalisation
- Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
- Willingness to undergo a national police record and work eligibility check
