About the Role
The Parenting Assessment and Skill Development Service (PASDS) Practitioner of the Family Preservation Team undertakes comprehensive assessment of the parenting capacity of families with high-risk infants and toddlers, aged 0-3 years, with a focus on developmental needs, parent, and caregiver child attachment. Referrals to the program are received from Child Protection, to support decision making and often, statutory case planning.
The role applies strong evidence-based practice to make assessments and recommendations across the program where intensive skill development is required. Focussing on maximising parent and caregiver opportunities to develop parenting skills and facilitate positive parent-child interaction. The PASDS Practitioner encompasses a strong collaborative practice lens to ensure effective and informed risk assessment and recommendations.
The role reports to the Family Preservation Team Leader and indirectly to the Children and Family Services Manager.
About You
You are passionate about continuing to grow your career in the Family and Community Services space. Solutions focused and up for making a difference, you align your approach to strategy to achieve organisational and divisional goals.
**You will ideally bring the following**:
Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or other relevant Human Services qualification
Minimum 2 years’ relevant practice experience working directly in areas of child development, infant mental health, child protection, family services or similar
Key Selection Criteria
Comprehensive knowledge and experience in identifying, assessing, and tailoring interventions in relation to trauma, infant mental health, child development and parent-child attachment
Comprehensive knowledge of the Child Protection system, legislation, and frameworks, in addition to practice considerations for working with high-risk infants and statutory clients
Knowledge of the legislative and political context, with ability to research and seek information from stakeholders to support and inform assessment of risk and service efficacy

Problem solving and critical analysis skills, ability to analyse situations and formulate practical solutions when working with children and families informed by professional judgement, relevant theoretical and legislative frameworks
Cultural competence in working with Aboriginal families and families from culturally and linguistically diverse communities
Ability to adapt to meet a changing environment and needs of a parent/ carer and professionals while maintaining focus on service delivery
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation, assessment writing and problem-solving
Demonstrated level of self-awareness and resilience and the ability to manage multiple demands and prioritise effectively
