**About the role**:
The incumbent is the key and active contributor for Melbourne Polytechnics government designated Skills
and Jobs Centre (SJC) team to provide high quality impartial assistance and support to Retrenched Workers,
Disengaged Youth, Unemployed, Apprentices and CALD students in relation to counselling and referral of
participants to community services.

As the Careers Counsellor you will deliver professional and proactive careers counselling and course and
career advice in the Skills and Jobs Centre. You will liaise with prospective and existing VE students,
employers, apprentices, unemployed and transitioning workers. Your role will include providing one-on-one
counselling sessions as well as delivering work readiness workshops in schools and Community Services
organisations.

The incumbent commits to contribute to the SJC’s commitment to operate under the following DET 5 key Service Delivery Framework Guidelines:

- Operate in line with government priorities and triage clients into appropriate government initiatives.
- Provide training and course advice and referrals.
- Deliver qualified career counselling.
- Coordinate with and refer participants to appropriate community service and job readiness service providers.
- Work with local industry and employers

**Duties**:
**SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES ASSESSMENT SERVICES**
- Provide individual careers counselling and support services to the clients.
- Provide training course advice and pathway services across Melbourne Polytechnic and a range of
institutions.
- Review job seeker skills base and make recommendation regarding their employment pathway or
up skilling options.
- Active use career diagnostic software and job readiness assessment tools available to Melbourne
Polytechnic.

**COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT**
- Build robust relationships with community stakeholders to ensure a strong service culture within
the team.
- Work in collaboration with other stakeholder and agencies such as PRACE (Northland); Matchworks (Epping); Brotherhood; Darebin Youth Services in northern corridor; Koorie Services; and Multi-Skills.
- Represent Melbourne Polytechnic SJC at appropriate forums and meetings.

**WORKSHOP AND EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION SESSIONS**
- Provide career counselling and support services for individuals and groups, which result in job seekers making informed training and employment decisions.
- Participate and assist in the development of career events, workshops and programs to relevant groups and increase the profile of the SJC.
- Collaborate with the Manager, Coordinator and wider Student Acquisitions team to develop and
deliver integrated career education materials to support access to courses and further education.

**OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT**
- Develop, plan, organise, co-ordinate and deliver innovative careers events, workshops and
programs.
- Build and maintain quality partnerships with relevant Melbourne Polytechnic stakeholders,
industries and other TAFE providers.
- Travel around the Northern corridor will be required for this role as well as being available on
weekends and evenings to attend careers events in Schools and career expos as required.
