The Manager, Animal Care and Welfare Program will administer the department responsibilities to uphold its institutional obligations to the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, 8th ed.,2013 (Code), and the South Australian Animal Welfare Act 1985 and Livestock Act 1987.

This includes all matters related to the license for teaching, research or experimentation involving animals in South Australia pursuant to part 4 of the Animal Welfare Act 1985.

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

- Coordinate and undertake a range of projects, high level governance and legislation administration functions that support the effective operation of the Animal Ethics Committee, ensuring that all activities involving the care and use of animals comply with the Code in government education sites.
- Provide expert advice on, and contribute to and coordinate the development of, departmental policies, procedures and guidelines on the care and use of animals.
- Research, analyse and provide recommendations and consultancy services on issues relating to the care and use of animals that take account of work health and safety, confidentiality, freedom of information legislation, legal requirements, conscientious objection in the case of teaching activities, privacy, and commercial-in-confidence considerations.
- Ensure that policies and procedures are made available to all relevant people and AEC members, and that compliance with the Code and acts is promoted across the Department.
- Identify, document and report on clear lines of responsibility, communication and accountability with all stakeholders and general community.
- Develop, coordinate, and evaluate appropriate educational programs and resources to ensure that all people at government education sites who are involved in the care and use of animals understand their responsibilities and the requirements of the Code and have the necessary skills and knowledge.
- Regularly monitor and review of the Department’s compliance with the Code and provide accurate and timely specialist advice, including briefings, assessments and reports and online resources and

**Qualifications**:
**Desirable**: veterinary or other appropriate qualifications.

**Special Conditions**:
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN -EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.
