The Behavioural Sciences Unit (BSU) is a part of the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children's Hospital and the School of Clinical Medicine, UNSW. The Unit comprises of a multidisciplinary team with representation from psychology, dietetics, paediatric oncology/haematology, social work, nursing, bereavement counselling, behavioural sciences, and exercise physiology. The unit undertakes psychosocial and nutritional research as related to paediatric illness, with a focus on childhood cancer.

**Why Your Role Matters**:
As a Research Assistant you will provide effective administrative and research support to research studies investigating the experiences and needs of families of children, adolescents and young adults enrolling in precision medicine and genetic testing for childhood cancer. You will be based within the Behavioural Sciences Unit/ School of Clinical Medicine, UNSW Medicine & Health.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist with the day-to-day running of large-scale psychosocial studies exploring families’ and health professionals’ experiences of precision medicine trials for childhood cancer.
- Coordinate study participation activities via the REDCap survey platform, including survey mail outs, respondent follow ups, scheduling participant interviews.
- Collaborating on projects with medical professionals (e.g., oncologists, genetics professionals, nurses, clinical research associates) and attending study-related research meetings with wider medical teams.
- Conduct interviews with research participants, including interpreter supported interviews and coordinate the transcription of interviews.
- Undertake data entry and coding of audio and/or video-recorded interviews.
- Assist with research literature searches for relevant articles and assist with preparation of manuscripts.
- Assist with preparation of posters and presentations for conferences.
- Draft agendas, minutes, correspondence, briefing notes and guidelines for specific committees and meetings as required.

**Who You Are**:

- A relevant tertiary qualification in health, psychology, genetics, science or a related discipline or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Previous experience providing research assistance for studies in a health-related field, such as psycho-oncology, or clinical trials research will be highly regarded.
- Understanding of the physical and psychosocial implications of chronic illness in children and young people or adults, particularly cancer, will be highly regarded.
- Interest in furthering knowledge of psycho-oncology and childhood cancer and enhancing research skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with an aptitude to show understanding of the psychosocial issues faced by families affected by cancer.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of and aptitude to learn various IT software, such as research-related computer programs (REDCap, SPSS and Endnote).
- Demonstrated ability to maintain and organise complex filing systems.
- Valid Working with Children Check
