- **Salary - Clerk Grade 3/4, Base Salary ($79,032 - $86,539), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading**
**Your role**
**What you’ll do**
As part of The Public Defender, you will provide vital paralegal and administrative support. You will assist in drafting legal documents, managing reception, co-ordinating meetings including Audio Visual Link (AVL) bookings, printing material and undertaking records management, providing on the ground information technology support and undertaking financial responsibilities such as raising purchase orders and paying of invoices to ensure smooth business operations.
You will also:
- Manage the reception desk and all incoming calls, mail, deliveries and solicitor/ client and other visits to enable efficient and appropriate access to Public Defender services.
- Assist the Chambers Manager with financial tasks and event management
- Manage the CASES database to ensure accurate record-keeping and timely data entry.
- Arrange travel for Public Defenders and assist with submitting travel claims in accordance with Department policies.
- Provide technology support, including troubleshooting IT issues and updating the Public Defenders website.
- Supporting the CASES (client/work) data base by correctly entering data and other associated duties to ensure records are accurate and timely, track work of Public Defenders and provide statistics for various reports for efficient management of the office.
Please note that this position involves handling extremely distressing material, which will require emotional resilience.

**What we’re looking for**
- Experience providing high level para-legal and administrative support to barristers involved with criminal defence work or within a social justice environment.
- Proven ability to deal with challenging and confronting legal material involving serious criminal offences.
- National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
- Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
