**About the team**
SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator, our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation such as the explosives and dangerous goods legislation and improving the safety culture in NSW workplaces.

The Dangerous Goods and Explosives Team (DG&E) sits within the Chemicals, Explosives and Safety Systems Directorate of SafeWork NSW and primarily undertakes assessment and verification of Explosives licences and Manifest Quantity Workplaces that store hazardous chemicals. It also provides technical expertise and guidance to help improve work health and safety (WHS) compliance within the dangerous goods and explosives sector.

The Team faces many challenges including fraudulent activity, unsafe practices, lack of knowledge about the risks and hazards when storing hazardous chemicals and explosives.

**About the role**
We are looking for a State Inspector to join our Dangerous Goods & Explosives team. You will be responsible for building industry capability to support the prevention of harm this includes delivering key programs to support organisational priorities.

As a State Inspector in the Dangerous Goods and Explosives team you will be responsible for building industry capability to support the prevention of harm, which includes:

- Work with industry, associations, unions, community, other regulators, and government agencies, including Fire & Rescue NSW and the NSW EPA in the response to and prevention of workplace injury, illness, and incidents within the Dangerous Goods & Explosive sectors.
- Prevent harm by securing compliance with regulatory obligations at NSW dangerous goods & explosives facilities.
- Collaborate with other State & Territory Regulators to build national uniformity within the industry.
- Play a pivotal role in providing leadership and expert advice on prevention and response activities whilst building the capability of internal and external stakeholders and customers.
- Utilise your skills and knowledge to identify, plan and deliver strategies to encourage best practice in the safe storage and handling of dangerous goods & explosives.
- Contribute to the development of high-risk harm prevention projects and initiatives.
- Assist in the conduct of investigations into causes of workplace incidents, injuries and fatalities involving dangerous goods or explosives and where required, provide specialist advice regarding compliance with WHS and Explosives legislation.
- Where necessary, you may be involved in court processes, including the preparation of court documents, attending court, and participating in evidentiary processes.
- Be responsible for providing the NSW communities with strong regulatory service to proactively engage and influence key industry stakeholders.
- Utilise your high-level leadership, industry knowledge, project management and stakeholder engagement skills to develop and implement state-wide strategic industry initiatives in the dangerous goods and explosives sector.

To be successful, you will:

- Proceed to complete formal training and assessments of the Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) within 12 months of obtaining the Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection)
- Strong communication skills to proactively engage and influence key industry stakeholders, influence safety behaviour, undertake change management processes, and lead stakeholder engagements
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Well established resilience skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team
- High level written communication skills and an ability to understand comprehensive and/or technical reports
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a timely manner
- Solid knowledge and use of technology
