**The opportunity**:
We seek an enthusiastic Research Assistant to join our Cardiac Cellular Systems lab.
The Cardiac Cellular Systems laboratory studies the complex ecosystem of cells that form the heart in health and disease contexts. In particular, the lab aims to understand the ways in which cardiac injury and stress alter the cardiac cellular landscape, how these alterations drive heart dysfunction, and the systemic and extra-cardiac factors that regulate cardiac cellular heterogeneity.
**Key duties**:
In this role you will be expected to:
- Provide intellectual leadership, to drive the laboratory’s research program and to support the laboratory to achieve its objectives.
- Critically analyse relevant literature and proactively remain up-to-date with developments in relevant fields of science and technology.
- Manage laboratory research projects, including designing, resourcing and performing research experiments.
- Manage and supervise research staff and students.
- Develop new and/or revise current research methodologies, experimental designs and analytical methods.
**Skills and experience**:
You will have:
- PhD degree in a biomedical science or other relevant field.
- Strong leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Strong evidence of capacity to solve problems and think laterally.
- High motivation and desire to pursue career in cardiovascular research.
Demonstrable skill in analysis of data and high-quality scientific writing.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, including the ability to manage a range of tasks with conflicting priorities.
- Strong track record of publications in diabetes, heart failure, cardiac developmental biology or field relevant to cardiovascular biology or disease.
- Experience in planning and performing small animal studies.
