We have an exciting 2-year Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity (PDRA) at Swinburne.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct research on galaxy evolution. This will involve observational studies of the high-redshift universe using a new large sample of lensed galaxies observed and leveraging the ALMA sub-mm telescope in Chile and the new adaptive optics capabilities being commissioned on the Keck telescopes in Hawaii.

The observations will probe the sub-kpc scale astrophysics of early galaxies with a focus on the distribution of molecular and ionized gas and how it compares to the distribution of stars and star-formation rate. It will also evaluate the underlying physics drives the overall morphological evolution of galaxies.

This position is funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project grant and is in collaboration with Prof. Geraint Lewis at the University of Sydney where there will be another funded PDRA working on next generation lens modeling. International institutions collaborating on this grant are the Universities of Portsmouth (Prof. Tom Collett), Durham (Dr James Nightingale) and Auckland (Dr Brendon Brewer).

**About You**
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

- Conduct research activities and contribute to research output of the Centre, both individually and as part of a team
- Publish astronomical research in international refereed journals.
- Attend national and international meetings to present research results
- Conduct research collaboration with other universities, organisations and involvement in relevant professional activities.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students as required.
- Actively contributes to a team environment that fosters and develops effective working relationships in both the Swinburne University and the wider ASTRO 3D membership.

**Qualifications**
- A PhD in observational astrophysics, with research interests and experience in high redshift galaxy or intergalactic/circumgalactic medium observations using large optical/near-IR telescopes.
