**Worawa Aboriginal College are seeking part time Boarding Supervisors to supervise and manage the care of students after school. These are part time roles, working shifts across Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon (approx 15 hours per week), commencing January 2023.**

Located on a beautiful 136 acre property in the Yarra Valley (60 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD), Worawa Aboriginal College is a boarding school for Aboriginal girls in their secondary years of schooling. An Aboriginal initiative, Worawa is an Independent school, owned and governed by Aboriginal people, and operates on a philosophy of ‘Walking Together to Make a Difference’.

A full boarding school, Worawa was established as a response to the needs of Aboriginal adolescents and the difficulties these young people experience in the mainstream educational system. The diversity of Aboriginal Australia is reflected in the student population drawn from communities across the country. Worawa provides a holistic education based on an integrated Education, Culture, and Wellbeing model.

Boarding Supervisors provide a supportive, nurturing environment as positive role models for our students to maintain a safe, secure and respectful residential environment. You would be responsible for ensuring the successful daily operation of the house including supervising and accompanying the students on any after-hours and/or weekend activities.

These are residential positions requiring overnight stay. Whilst on shift, the boarding team are provided with private ensuited accommodation rooms and all meals are included. These positions also work closely with the Wellbeing team.

**The successful applicants will have**:

- Experience in a similar position working with adolescents in a residential environment
- Bachelor of Social Science (Youth/Social Work, Indigenous Studies), Diploma of Community Services (Youth Work, Residential Care) or equivalent experience
- Solid understanding of Health and Safety requirements including Child Safety regulations
- Current Working with Children Check and National Criminal History Check
- First Aid: HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid, HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Anaphylaxis Awareness training or willing to obtain upon employment
- A current Victorian Driver’s license and willingness to attend Safe Driving Behaviours Training to drive school bus/vehicle
- Non-Government Schools Protecting Children-Mandatory reporting and other Obligations Certificate to be gained upon employment
- ABSA Duty of Care Certificate to be gained within 6 months of appointment if not current
- Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) to be gained within 6 months of appointment if not current
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to build strong relationships and connect with students
- Good time management and organisational skills to provide consistency and routine
- An ability to manage and remain calm in difficult situations and diffuse escalated behaviours
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team as well as being able to work autonomously unsupervised

**Desirable**:

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the diversity of Aboriginal society and an ability to communicate sensitively with Indigenous Australians, experience working in an Aboriginal organisation or working with Aboriginal communities will be highly regarded
- De-Escalation and Trauma Informed Training
- Experience driving a small 11 seater school bus
- Systems experience in Compass and Microsoft Teams
- Working within an education, health or child development setting
- Experience working in similar setting with adolescents
