**Our team**

The Communication section supports Geoscience Australia to effectively engage key stakeholders and the general public in the work of Geoscience Australia. It comprises several teams of communication specialists managing strategic communication, media and ministerial engagement, speechwriting, events, graphic design, video and multimedia production, social media and digital engagement, web publication, and cartography.

Communications is a key section within the Corporate Division. The Corporate Division is responsible for delivering services and support across Geoscience Australia. It strives to provide professional, trusted and respected advice and to ensure its services and business solutions are sustainable, customer focused and deliver value.

**The role**

Geoscience Australia is seeking a professional Event and Communication Officer to plan, coordinate and deliver the events of the organisation. These events include key internal events, public outreach and community events and supporting industry led events across the country.

In this role you will:

- Plan, coordinate and deliver internal events held on behalf of Geoscience Australia’s Executive, including all staff forums.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver events for National Science Week and Earth Science Week.
- Provide professional, best practice strategic communication advice and logístical support to internal stakeholders and production teams, to determine and implement operational requirements for each event based on identified communication objectives.
- Identify priorities, to develop, implement, and evaluate impactful event and communication plans, and to craft effective and impactful communication to key audiences.
- Liaise with external stakeholders to determine promotional and strategic requirements for events ensuring timely delivery, quality and value for money in line with identified outcomes ensuring Geoscience Australia has an effective presence at external events.
- Manage the event resources, including developing and reconciling event budgets.
- E valuate event and communication activities against identified success measures to ensure business objectives are realised.

To perform this role you will work in cooperation with Geoscience Australia’s science, corporate, ICT and communication staff.

To be successful in the role you will have:

- Qualifications in event management or relevant experience and/or a minimum of three years working in an events role, preferably within an APS environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement event and communication plans with clear outcomes.
- Demonstrated success in communicating with influence to a range of high level stakeholders across a variety of specialist fields.
- Excellent planning and project coordination skills to be able to manage multiple competing priorities often to tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Ability to work flexibly - some evening and weekend work is required around the time of major events.
- Willingness to travel - short periods of local and interstate travel may be required.
