What is the role?
ACT Policing is looking for a motivated, experienced and creative individual to be considered for the role of Communications and Events Officer in the Communications and Government Relations portfolio.
ACT Policing has a strong focus on engaging with the Canberra community in a relaxed and accessible environment, providing opportunities for the people to speak with their local police about the work they do, crime prevention, local issues, safety in the community and ACT Policing careers.
The Band 4 Communications and Events Officer is responsible for ACT Policing’s participation, coordination and management of interactive community engagement displays at major events in Canberra throughout the year.
The role is also responsible for organising ACT Policing’s own community engagement events, such as Coffee with a Cop and Cop Pop-Ups, and facilitating requests for ACT Policing attendance at community and school events or engagement opportunities.
The successful applicant will also be required to assist other areas across the portfolio including media, social media and strategic communications.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
As part of the Strategic Communications and Public Engagement Team you will work in a fast past and dynamic environment.
**You will be required to**:
Work with external event organisers;
Develop event documents such as briefs, risk assessments, rosters;
Liaise with internal areas on staffing and resources;
Manage logistics for the event, display set up, items etc;
Create ideas for merchandise, display activities, display design and signage; and
Develop communications material to promote the events - media, website, social media.
Working closely alongside other teams in the CGR portfolio there will also be times you may be called upon to assist with media activities, social media content, website content, campaign development and internal communications.
Essential Requirements
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Have contemporary knowledge and experience in event management.

Additional Information
This role is located in Canberra and applicants are expected to be based in Canberra.
This position requires the ability to work flexibly - with regular roster changes at short notice due to operational and staffing requirements. The team works to a seven day roster between 7.00am and 8.00pm Monday to Friday and 7.00am to 11.00am on weekends and public holidays. There is also weekend work at events.
In accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement 2017- 2020, an employee who is required to work in accordance with the Operations working pattern will receive a Core Composite of 22% in addition to their Base Salary which will count as salary for superannuation. The Commissioner has the authority to remove a composite from a role.
