**About the Role**:
We are seeking a highly skilled Manager, Legislation and Strategy to lead and manage a small, dynamic team responsible for implementing legal advice and direction. This role is crucial in ensuring the department’s strategic goals are met in compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

As the Manager, you will provide expert leadership, direction, and advice to support the regulatory framework surrounding school attendance across the state. You will lead statutory responses, build, and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Department for Child Protection, Crown Solicitor’s Office, Attorney General’s Department, and various internal divisions such as Student Support Services and Legal Services. Your leadership will ensure that all stakeholders are well-supported and that processes are reviewed and optimized for compliance and effectiveness.

**About the Directorate**:
The Attendance Directorate within the Support & Inclusion Division aims to improve participation, engagement and learning achievement for all children and students. Support and Inclusion priorities children and students with functional needs, Aboriginal students and children in care. This includes improving attendance, particularly for these priority cohorts.

There are a range of inter-related factors that influence attendance rates. Some factors are school-related while others relate to individual and family contexts. Critically, the evidence suggests that early attendance habits and declining attendance from primary to secondary school can have a variety of impacts on a student’s academic achievements, social connections, wellbeing and longer-term life outcomes such as employment.

The Education and Children’s Services Act 2019 provides that every child has a right to an education. Further, in South Australia there is a legal requirement that children aged between 6 years of age and 16 years of age are enrolled in a school.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Essential a relevant tertiary qualification
- Desirable a Legal qualification, legal practice experience or investigation experience.
- Desirable experience within education sector or child protection is highly regarded.**
**Special Conditions**:
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN -EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

**Remuneration**:
ASO8 $121,107 - $125,679 per annum (1.0 FTE), plus superannuation.
