Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

**Job Description**:

- Reporting to the Head of Safety, Health and Enterprise Risk, the Principal of Enterprise Risk will develop, lead and strengthen enterprise risk management and control programs - effectively identifying, quantifying and controlling enterprise-level strategic, operational and financial risks in the portfolio. Developing comprehensive monitoring and control strategies is a key element of this role.

Steelmaking Coal (SMC) operates in a high-hazard environment, necessitating diligence and focus to ensure risks are effectively controlled for safety, health, operational and financial outcomes. One of the key challenges of this role is developing and strengthening risk awareness and alignment to a standardised risk management and governance process, and achieving best practice.

This is a full-time permanent role based in our Brisbane Corporate Office with frequent site travel required.

The role will be rewarding and varied and will involve the following:

- Design and implementation of a cohesive enterprise risk framework
- Coordinate the establishment and running of SMC’s governance structures, risk plans and forums
- Manage risk profiling exercises for SMC
- Work with Group and other corporate stakeholders to develop an agreed schedule and coordinate communications
- Advocate the risk process, and coach and provide guidance across the business on critical risks, material accident risks across SMC to life the understanding and engagement
- Develop comprehensive quantitative and qualitative risk governance material and coordinate communication of outcomes to stakeholders
- Continually monitor and identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in the overall system of governance and assurance of enterprise risks
- Act as the Steelmaking Coal point of contact for external and internal audits in strategic, operational and financial risks
- Facilitate reviews and improvements to critical controls
- Examine technologies and initiatives that will allow for real-time monitoring of business critical risk exposures

**Qualifications**:

- To be successful in this role, the following will be highly regarded:

- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline combined with extensive practical experience
- Formal qualifications in risk management and leadership will be highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience in designing and managing enterprise risk frameworks.
- Strong track record with engaging with stakeholders across multiple sites and workstreams
- Expertise in understanding, communicating, and managing complex processes
- Ability to establish and lead a team to safely deliver work and foster a safety-first attitude and culture
