**Eligibility**

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977). Only Aboriginal peoples are eligible to apply. A cultural association with the local Worimi community (as defined by the Worimi LALC boundaries) is highly desirable.

**About the Worimi Conservation Lands**

The 4200-hectare Worimi Conservation Lands is managed by the local Worimi Traditional Owners, in partnership with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The Aboriginal-owned park is managed to ensure the protection of the natural and cultural values of the Stockton Bight landscape, while providing public access and promoting safe and sustainable recreational and commercial use.

**About the role**

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for casual Field Officers to work as part of the team and contribute towards the care, control and management of the Worimi Conservation Lands.

The casual Field Officers fill in when staff are on leave or during busy periods such as school holidays.

As a Field Officer, you will help with maintenance and improvement to park assets within NPWS parks and reserves, working primarily on the Worimi Conservation Lands. You will be guided by the senior field staff in your day-to-day work including:

- Maintaining and cleaning campgrounds, picnic areas and other facilities
- Building and repairing fences, roads, tracks and trails
- Mowing, line trimming and controlling weeds
- Protecting and promoting Aboriginal culture
- Supporting fire management activities to reduce fire risks
- Monitoring the natural environment such as plant and animal surveys
- Operating and maintaining basic plant and equipment
- Interacting with visitors while in the field
- Assisting with compliance and law enforcement activities as required.

Please note the roles are on a 7 day roster and you will be required to work some weekends and public holidays, as agreed with your Manager.

These roles are based in the Hunter Coast Area covers the Port Stephens area, managing reserves such as Tomaree National Park, Karuah National Park, Wallaroo National Park, Seaham Swamp Nature Reserve, Tilligerry State Conservation Area, Medowie State Conservation Area, and Broughton Island. We co-manage the Aboriginal-owned Worimi Conservation Lands along with a Board of Management. We have an office in Nelson Bay with 15 staff and a works depot in Boat Harbour with 20 staff. We are building a new combined office and depot in Anna Bay and expect to move there in mid-late 2023. More than half of the team identify as Aboriginal.
