The National Museum of Australia (NMA) has an exciting opportunity in the Programs Business Unit (BU) for a Programs Officer to coordinate and support the delivery of public programs.

The Programs BU develops and delivers a range of public programs, events and activities connected to the NMA’s vision, strategy, values, collections and exhibitions. Designed to engage diverse audiences with opportunities for life-long learning, the NMA’s program of high-quality, accessible programs aims to inspire, connect and challenge audiences, building knowledge, curiosity, creativity and empathy.

The Programs team develops audience focused activities through best practice models, research and innovation, working in consultation and collaboration with colleagues in the Programs team and across the NMA, as well as with external partners, stakeholders, professionals and communities. Programs are primarily delivered at the NMA’s Acton site, as well as throughout Australia and internationally, with an emphasis on online innovation.

The opportunity comes as NMA is delivering on a new Strategic Plan (2023-27) and developing a Public Engagement Strategy to better engage audiences, onsite and online.

**Position Duties**
- Contributing to the development delivery and evaluation of creative and interpretive programs and events for diverse audiences, including children and families that effectively build audience engagement.
- Working within a small, dynamic team, be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, and under direction with accountability for project delivery.
- Contributing to the development of programs with a commitment to First Nations engagement, gender equity, cultural and linguistic diversity and accessibility principles.
- Working collaboratively and liaising with a diverse range of internal stakeholders and externally with artists, community organisations, partners and other cultural institutions.
- Project and event administration and administrative support, undertaking data analysis and research under supervision and contributing to business planning and reporting under supervision.
- Ensuring that you and your team members have sufficient supervision, instruction and equipment to undertake your work safely and efficiently.

This position will require some work on weeknights, weekends and public holidays. It may also involve some strenuous physical activity.

**Selection criteria**
- Experience coordinating and supporting the delivery of programs and events in cultural or community organisations and/or settings, with the ability to work across and support the delivery of multiple projects simultaneously.
- Event coordination and delivery skills including planning, administration, time management and problem solving, as well as a demonstrated understanding of budget processes and digital literacy including competency in the use of Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated experience working within a team environment, and client liaison and customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with colleagues, the public, stakeholders, and professionals from a range of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
