Why this role matters

As a Chaplain at the Salvation Army, you will provide trained specialist and expertise focusing on the spiritual and pastoral needs of others. As a spiritual practitioner you will work in partnership with other professional staff to provide holistic support to both clients and employees.

The chaplain’s role may include provision of religious services including chapel services, weddings, funerals or Bible studies. It also may include the facilitation of support from other faith groups as appropriate.

About the role

The Chaplain will:

- Provide spiritual and pastoral support to people
- Work with staff to support holistic client care
- Be sensitive to the spiritual needs of clients and staff, respectful of different spiritual/theological beliefs

The role provides Chaplaincy support to employees and clients of the various TSA Social Mission expressions based in Tasmania. The Social Mission expressions include Alcohol and Other Drugs, Homelessness & Housing, Family Violence and Youth.

We currently have two permanent full-time positions, reporting to the Divisional Chaplaincy Manager. Locations of the positions are at our Hobart Bridge Program, Hobart and Northwest Tasmania Bridge Program, Ulverstone.

You will have
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army; previous or current chaplaincy experience or relevant experience in a similar position; regular attendance at a Christian place of worship.
- Qualification requirements for the role include:

- Diploma of Chaplaincy _(mandatory)_
- Training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) _(desirable or working towards)_
- Relevant qualifications in theological studies _(desirable or working towards)_
- Positive Lifestyle Program (PLP) Facilitator training _(desirable or working towards)_
- Knowledge of the physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioural impact of trauma and abuse
- Knowledge of lifestyle pressures faced by disadvantaged people in the community
- A current TAS Drivers Licence
- Valid TAS Employee Working with Vulnerable Persons Check
- Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
