**What you’ll do**

As the Associate Medical Director, you will provide scientific and medical leadership in the rare disease franchise. This will include developing and implementing long-term strategies focused on maximizing patient safety and therapeutic outcomes to continuously advance evidence-based patient care. You will lead the Senior Medical Affairs Managers and the Medical Science Liaison’s allocated to several diseases. Ability to juggle several portfolios and coach a diverse team is therefore essential.

Reporting to the Medical Director, you will
- Coach a team of Medical Managers and MSLs in the strategy and delivery of the therapeutic areas under their responsibility.
- Develop and continuously maintain the highest scientific and medical expertise for all allocated diseases, associated Alexion products and competitor products.
- The development and implementation of local Medical Affairs strategies and associated tactics to support best clinical practice in the diagnosis and subsequent management of patients with the position’s allocated diseases and eligible Alexion products, in line with local and corporate objectives.
- Identifying the Medical Affairs resources required to optimally achieve local and global strategic objectives and support Director Medical Affairs Australia in garnering support for these resources from senior management.
- Actively engaging with local, regional and global Medical Affairs colleagues and other cross-functional colleagues to ensure the effective implementation of appropriate local Alexion medical strategies and the sharing of best practice.
- Medical input into the development of accurate and balanced scientific and medical educational materials, in compliance with Alexion SOPs and local regulations. Initiate and deliver high impact medical education activities as required, such as advisory boards, congress symposia, educational meetings and speaker development programs.
- Supporting Alexion’s cross functional teams including Market Access, Clinical Research, Operations and Medical Information.
- Conducting or participating in training programs for cross-functional colleagues, providing medical leadership and education in line with local and global SOPs to ensure consistent, balanced and evidence-based messages are provided during all interactions with customers.

You will need to have:

- Medical degree (M.D.), pharmacy degree, PhD, or an advanced science degree in a relevant bioscience area
- A demonstrated ability and desire to manage a high performing team with diverse priorities.
- Experience performing in an Associate Medical Director/ Medical Manager or similar level position within the pharmaceutical industry
- Knowledge and experience with rare or orphan diseases is an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to effectively educate KOLs, challenge common perceptions and implement medical affairs tools to improve patient safety and therapeutic outcomes
- Knowledge and experience with early and late clinical development an advantage
