**About the team**:
Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre is a division of the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources. Our Vision is “a better future for all Australians through engagement with science, technology and innovation.” We deliver on that vision through our Mission “to excite and motivate people through inspirational learning experiences”. Science communication is at the heart of what we do.

Questacon’s Centres Experience section is responsible for managing the Questacon Centre ensuring all visitors have great experiences. The section also has responsibility for developing connections with visitors, school groups and members that promote and encourage more audiences to visit and engage with Questacon as a whole. The team comprises of various functions including, Visitor Experiences, Events, Retail, Memberships, Tourism and Group Bookings. These teams maximise day to day operations and drive new business opportunities so more visitors can engage with Questacon.

The Visitor Experience team sits within the Centre Experience section and contributes to the Questacon mission by promoting and communicating science to the Canberra community and visitors to the ACT through high customer and client service standards that enhance our visitors’ experience and interaction with science. This team is responsible for providing a positive and inclusive work environment for all staff, volunteers and visitors; effectively operating all visitor service points throughout the Questacon Centre; and ensuring excellence in customer service is demonstrated at all times throughout the Centre.

**The opportunity**

You will work collaboratively as part of the Visitor Experience team with a focus on coordinating the Questacon Volunteer Program, including recruiting, training, supporting and supervising Volunteer Explainers as well as supporting the coordination and delivery of volunteer-related projects.

**What you will do**:
The Volunteers Program Coordinator is responsible for:

- Coordinating the recruitment, induction, training, supervision, motivation, and recognition of the Questacon Volunteer Explainer Team
- Coordinating the Schools Training Program and support the student explainers
- Coordinating Volunteer rosters and process volunteer reimbursements
- Ensuring volunteer policies, procedures and documentation is developed, updated, and always adhered to
- Support the project delivery and reporting work associated with endowment and other volunteer projects
- Coordinating volunteer events that support the volunteers’ recognition program
- Ensuring physical and mental health safety of volunteers and public engaging with program
- Exploring ways to enhance the visitor experience at Questacon with volunteer engagement
- Reviewing and evaluating program goals, improving delivery methods, and developing new program content
- Consolidating statistics and reporting on volunteers as required
- Working closely within the Visitor Experience team - other duties as required.

**Eligibility**:
The successful applicants of these roles are required to hold and maintain a valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) card.

**Notes**:
Your role is full time, ongoing - but open to job sharing arrangements. You will work within the scope of the Department’s Enterprise Agreement and other policies. Outside of the usual pattern or work, this role may require some after-hours or weekend work. The position is based at Questacon, Parkes ACT but may involve some local and interstate travel.

A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette_. _
