**Position Information**:
Newtown High School of the Performing Arts is one of the leading specialist performing arts high schools in Australia enjoying a national and international reputation for excellence in performing and creative arts. The school is located in the inner west suburb of Newtown and has a student enrolment of 1135. The school enrols students from both the local area and auditions students from all over NSW in dance, drama and music for intakes in Years 7 and 11.

The school is committed to excellence in student education by providing a challenging curriculum and a range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that enhance the talent of its students.

An ongoing focus on innovative, evidence-based teaching and learning practices delivered in a culture of high expectations drives academic and performing arts outcomes whilst developing student agency and engagement. Students at the school are skilled, creative and self-motivated students ready to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex society.

**Selection Criteria**:
Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Evidence of outstanding interpersonal skills, strong communication practices and the ability to foster partnerships and opportunities at all levels of the local and wider educational community to inspire confidence in public education.

2. Highly visible, dynamic and strategic leadership with the capacity to lead, inspire and model a culture of high expectations for staff, students and the community which promotes excellence across the academic and performing arts domains.

4. Proven success implementing and leading student wellbeing programs and practices to advocate for, support and engage a diverse student community in an inclusive learning culture that supports all students to reach their potential.

4. Demonstrated leadership of data informed innovation and change that builds cohesion, responsibility and collective efficacy of staff to develop, lead and evaluate school programs in the pursuit of ongoing school improvement.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
