This role is required to collaborate with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on the lands of all traditional custodians across South Australia, Australia and potentially globally.

Wardliparingga Aboriginal Health Equity Theme is the nation’s leading research unit focused on reducing inequity in health and wellbeing among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.

With this aim, SA Genomics Centre (SAGC) and the Aboriginal Health Equity Theme at SAHMRI are hiring for the position of Indigenous Genomics Research Coordinator for South Australia. The position will be located at SAHMRI and will work closely with the ALIGN SA Node, based at Telethon Kids (TKI), Adelaide office. This position will help support the SA research community engaged in a wide range of Indigenous-focused genomic health and medical research and ensure Indigenous Australians are included in the design and implementation of this important research

**ABOUT THE ROLE**

Key responsibilities include:

- Co-design end-to-end genomics service architecture for Indigenous genomics research.
- Partner with local researchers to develop and implement Indigenous genomics research projects utilising SAGC core facilities and pipelines.
- Align and adhere to the South Australian Aboriginal Health Research Accord and ALIGN’s policies and procedures that support the secure, ethical, and culturally appropriate conduct of genomics analyses for Indigenous health research.
- In consultation with the Key Stakeholders provide advice and expertise to Indigenous researchers, community organisations, and researchers working with Indigenous participants on culturally appropriate, best-practice genomics research methods and community decision making in genomics research.
- In consultation with the Key Stakeholders develop outreach programs to communicate genomics to Indigenous researchers and community organisations and outline available services within SAGC.
- Develop and report on Indigenous Genomics activities to the SAGC Advisory Board and Scientific Advisory Committee, SAHMRI and Bioplatforms Australia.

**ABOUT YOU**
- Bachelor or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Genomics or related field
- Knowledge and understanding of health issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and familiarity with Aboriginal communities and services.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally safe, sensitive and accountable manner with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals, communities and organisations.
- Qualifications and/or experience relevant to project / program management.
- Relevant research or work experience in genomics or bioinformatics, or related field.
- High-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information effectively and clearly to a wide audience and experience in facilitating or chairing meetings.
- Experience with clinician engagement.
- Experience in writing reports and funding submissions/proposals for senior officials and lay audiences.

Special Requirements
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- DCSI Employment Screening and Police Checks may be required.
- Travel interstate and intrastate, including to urban, regional or remote parts of South Australia.
