**About the Role**:
As the Design Management Leader, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the design aspects of our heavy haul rail projects both asset renewals and expansion works.

Your primary responsibility will be to lead and manage a team of Design Managers to coordinate design efforts across various teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and innovative designs that meet project requirements.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, project managers, engineers, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of design concepts into the overall project framework and also work with external design houses to assist Aurizon in delivering the forward program of design activities.

**Position Responsibilities**:

- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of design management professionals, fostering a collaborative and creative environment.
- Establish and enforce design standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure consistency and quality throughout projects.
- Oversee the entire design lifecycle, from conceptualization and design development to final implementation.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to align design strategies with project goals, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Coordinate with external design partners, consultants, and contractors to ensure a cohesive design approach.
- Evaluate design proposals, conduct design reviews, and provide constructive feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Identify and mitigate design-related risks and challenges, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in rail transportation design.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and alignment.

**Skills and experience you will bring**:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in design management within the rail or transportation industry.
- Proven track record of successfully leading design teams and managing complex projects.
- In-depth knowledge of rail industry standards, regulations, and design processes.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging and managing external design [partners to deliver within an internal program
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities
