**ABOUT THE ROLES**:
**General Surgery/Acute General Surgery**

**S**ummary of the role**:General Surgery is a core specialty at Werribee Mercy Hospital (WMH) with rapid growth in the last few years. The General Surgery Unit is an accredited training rotation for General Surgery currently has two trainees allocated by General Surgery Australia. Urology is an expanding service in the same institution
- The position will compromise of one 6 month term in Acute General Surgery and another 6 month term in General Surgery. The role is to assist the General Surgery consultants to provide a range of services at WMH including emergency assessment and management, pre and post-operative care, attending operating lists and the outpatient management of patients across a range of emergency and elective general surgery conditions. General surgery includes sub-specialities in Acute General Surgery, Colorectal, Upper Gastrointestinal/Hepatobiliary and Breast/Endocrine.
- One fixed term rotational contract is available - 12 month contract Feb 2024 to Feb 2025
- Clinical duties will include emergency assessment and management, pre and postoperative care, attending operating lists, attending and running outpatient clinics and managing the weekly general surgery MDT planning meeting and all audit requirements of the unit.
- Provide high quality clinical care under the supervision, or with the support, of the consultant general surgery surgeons and participate fully in the activities of the department.
- Participation in the afterhours (evenings), weekend and nights registrar roster
- The position would be suitable for a doctor looking to gain future entry into General Surgery training or a qualified and registerable Australian or International general surgeon looking for a supported position in general surgery
- The successful applicant will be employed as per the terms and conditions set out in the current Victorian Public Health Sector (AMA - Victoria) Doctors in Training (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement
- Research projects and mentoring toward a training position would be supported as part of this role

**ABOUT YOU**:

- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA)
- Applicants must be eligible for registration with AHPRA for positions of up to 12 months from starting date as a surgical registrar.
- A high standard of written and verbal communication skills.
- A practical common approach to problem solving & trouble shooting
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Prior experience at PGY3 or above in general surgery and/or acute general surgery rotations as Senior Resident or Registrar
- Preferably completed or enrolled for RACS courses (CCRISP, EMST, ASSET) and may have undertaken a Diploma in Anatomy, Anatomy Course (RACS) or worked in an Anatomy demonstration position
