Our client who is based in Melbourne is looking for an Intensive Care Registrar to join their busy team in 2024.

THE POSITION:

Join our clients enthusiastic ICU team in the hospital's fasted growing service as an ICU Registrar.

The ICU has physical capacity for 8 beds.

It is a newly developed (2018), state of the art unit equipped to provide hemodynamic and respiratory support, renal replacement therapy (RRT) and a medical emergency team (MET) service.

Each year our client admits approximately 700 patients, approximately a fifth of whom may require mechanical ventilation.


The ICU runs a strong CICM compliant education program with protected teaching time and since its opening in 2018, has supported many registrars successfully entering CICM training.


  • The ICU is accredited for six months foundation training and 6 months general training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine and is also able to provide accredited training time in ICU for registrars on the Emergency Medicine (ACEM), Anaesthetics (ANZCA), Physician (RACP) and surgical (RACS) training programs. Registrars are wellsupported by the ICU Consultant team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES, AND DUTIES:

  • Leadership and management
  • Readiness to take direction and willingness to learn from nominated supervisors and senior members of the team.
  • Undertake junior level management responsibilities pertaining to daytoday management of inpatients.
  • Management of daytoday admissions, prescribing, discharge planning, hand overs and key administrative activities pertaining to direct patient care.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team setting and establish good interpersonal relationships.
  • Participation in the ICU roster as required and in accordance with the current safe working hours guidelines.

CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Participate in research programs of the Department as approved by the Research Committee or the Clinical Review Committee
  • Cooperate with and be prepared to participate in educational activities and programs.
  • Clinical and theoretical knowledge is up to date.
  • Professional representation of the medical profession

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Comply with the requirements of the annual organisational mandatory and role related competencies.
  • Act professionally and in accordance.
  • Recent attendance at BASIC course
  • Current certification in ALS
  • Participate in annual performance development review (PDR) process (where applicable)

THE LOCATION:


This stunning Melbourne location is home to several sporting facilities, there are picnic areas located under towering gum trees, shady paths, and a large lagoon at the bend in the river with a canoe launching deck and it is the site of a diversion weir which was constructed to irrigate the South market gardens.


For those with families there is a local Zoo for the children, golf courses and last but not least local wineries for the adults to enjoy on their days off.

The local beach is just a short 11km drive away and there's plenty of foreshore area and stretches of sandy beaches to walk along and relax listening to the ocean.
