**About the role**
NSW Fair Trading is looking for driven and passionate people who want to make a difference for people living in strata, retirement villages and residential land lease communities. As part of the new Strata and Property Taskforce in NSW Fair Trading, we are recruiting for newly created roles in our Investigations team. These roles will enable us to protect consumers, enforce professional standards across over 60,000 operators and restore confidence to the property sector.

**About the team**
An opportunity has arisen within NSW Fair Trading, Strata & Property Services Investigations Unit for an experienced, professional investigator.

The Principal Investigator leads and mentors a team of investigators undertaking a range of investigations and compliance activities. To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate previous experience in dealing with complex and sensitive investigations, as well as the ability to research and interpret policy and legislation.

As a member of the Investigations Unit, you will collaborate with other members of the team and supervise and monitor performance of Investigators in the team ensuring the team meets group goals and guarantees of service. The position provides expert advice on legislative, to Investigators and senior management.

**Key responsibilities**
Key responsibilities within this position will include, conducting assessments and investigations, in an efficient and effective manner and in accordance with the legislative requirements, available methodologies and departmental guidelines. You will also need exceptional communication skills and be able to communicate at all levels both internally and externally.

**To be successful in this role you will**:

- Have expertise in undertaking complex investigations.
- Have a thorough knowledge of best practice investigation policies and procedures, the rules of evidence, preparation of briefs of evidence, and court processes.
- Possess high level analytical, organisational and communication skills.
- Be able to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions; and
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team.

**Must-Haves**
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or equivalent experience/willingness to obtain through employer-sponsored program)
- Strong understanding of investigative processes, rules of evidence, and brief preparation
- A current NSW driver’s licence & willingness to travel when required
- Experience in people management

**What we need from you**:
Salary Grade 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting at $125693 base plus superannuation.
