**Position Objective**

The overall goal of the Cultural Practice Coordinator is to support the cultural identity and connection to community of Aboriginal and Torrens Strait Islander children and young people in our programs with a strong focus on those who are case managed by our client within the Permanency Support Program (PSP).
This includes a strong focus on cultural safety ensuring that practice and support of children, and young people in our programs, their families and communities are culturally responsive and lead to improved outcomes and permanency pathways.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Conduct quarterly Cultural Consults with each Team Leader (TL) and Therapeutic Case Manager (TCM), and review annually each Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Support Plan in conjunction with the TCM
- In collaboration with the PSP TCM’s and PSP Youth worker complete the annual 715 Health Screening
- Identify and build collaborative relationships with other agencies to develop a greater presence for our client within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Create and facilitate regular training programs for all programs in Family Spirt to assist in developing a collaborative environment where we are walking together
- Be involved in all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Permanency Support Consults with the Team Leader, Therapeutic Case Manager and DCJ Permanency Support Coordinator
- Consult with the TCM and TL for the case plans of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people who are case managed by our client
- Support the Adoptions and Guardianship team in their assessments and understanding of cultural considerations in permanency pathways.
- Support the Recruitment, Training and Assessment Team to educate new and existing carers on the importance of a cultural lens.
- Be part of the clients Team by identifying and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples events
- Any other duties as directed from time to time.

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, and communities
- Experience developing and reviewing Cultural Support Plans
- Experience conducting Family Finding within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
- Demonstrated experience in providing advice, support, mentoring and training to managers and employees
- Ability to adapt existing evidence-informed approaches such as Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC) with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to ensure that evidences informed approaches are respectful to culture.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals, families and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective
- Excellent knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and communities, in contemporary society and an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively
- Good communication skills with the ability to manage complex and challenging behaviours
- Computer literacy and ability to effectively use Microsoft suite of products
- Ability to undertake the duties of the role in accordance with our clients Mission, Vision and Values.
- Current Working with Children Check clearance and Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
- Current and valid driver’s licence and access to a well-maintained vehicle which will be used for work purposes.
