About the role

Australia’s renewable energy sector has huge potential for growth with the decarbonisation of the industrial sector and the potential for establishing green energy export markets.

The Policy Officer position will play a key role at the Clean Energy Council, monitoring and understanding the market growth opportunities for the renewable energy sector, and the implications for policy settings and industry development.

The Policy Officer will be responsible for assisting with research, development, communication, and advocacy for policies to accelerate the responsible development of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, electrification, industrial decarbonisation and the development of green energy exports.

The role will support the Policy Director - Decarbonisation.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

- Researching and analysing key market and policy developments in Australia and internationally to keep our members informed and shape the Clean Energy Council’s policy and advocacy program.
- Drafting member briefs, submissions in response to consultation processes, and contributing to Clean Energy Council publications and public information as required.
- Co-ordinating member and stakeholder meetings across the decarbonisation policy portfolio.
- Engaging and maintaining relationships with members and stakeholders inside and outside the organisation on relevant policy and industry development matters and providing high quality advice where required.
- Maintaining our external stakeholder register to enable efficient engagement with our stakeholders as required.
- Supporting the Clean Energy Council with the delivery of key events.

About you

You will have experience in a similar professional environment where you have been responsible for researching and analysing key market and policy developments and drafting clear and concise summaries and information. You may have worked in government, a professional services firm or for a related energy market body.

You will be tertiary qualified, and your background experience, intellectual approach, curious nature and resourcefulness will enable you to successfully navigate complex government policy and frameworks that support the expansion of the clean energy sector in Australia.

Central to this role will be your understanding of issues affecting the development of renewable energy projects, climate policies and politics.

Previous experience organising and influencing consultative committees would be advantageous.

You will have excellent communication skills with the demonstrated ability to prepare and present logical, succinct material as well as strong time management skills with the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.

You will also have strong conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to grasp complex concepts comfortably and a genuine desire to learn.
