Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn (CECG) plays an integral role in education both in the ACT and NSW operating 56 Catholic Systemic Schools and 8 Early Learning Centres.

**About the Role**

The incumbent will engage with opportunities that support Aboriginal students, their families, and the community. To assist them in this work, school communities will develop their cultural responsivity and ensure that cultural alignment exists. Communication with Aboriginal families and forming partnerships with local Aboriginal organisations and Elders will be essential.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide support to Principals and school staff in collaboration with other CE officers by providing advice and support on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education including cultural competency; community protocols; professional development for all school staff including Aboriginal Education Workers (AEWs).
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning and development in line with the Science of Learning.
- Develop and implement Cultural Competency Programs (CCP) for all Catholic Education School Staff & CECG staff which will have a direct impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students.
- Encourage participation in school and community events that acknowledge and celebrate Aboriginal people.
- Coordinate and promote major Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander celebrations/events including coordination of Sorry Day, NAIDOC week activities, NAIDOC awards, NAIDOC Mass and Reconciliation Week.
- Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives within Archdiocesan celebrations/ events and in school faith development programs.
- Enable connections between the school and the local Aboriginal community.
- Connect with parents/carers of Aboriginal students in relation to their child’s/children’s learning and/or attendance.
- Attend Professional Learning, along with regular team meetings to ensure Teaching and Learning Team continue to build capacity and capability to support the system and school improvement journey.
- Commitment to adapt to roles and responsibilities, based on evolving system priorities and to meet school needs.
- Available to travel to work closely with school leaders and teachers on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education, Perspectives, and Cultural Competency.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace and abide by workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

**Essential Criteria**
- Bachelor's Degree of Education or equivalent qualifications including relevant qualifications at the postgraduate level.
- This role is for an identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Communication with Aboriginal families and forming partnerships with local Aboriginal organisations and Elders will be essential.
- Ability to provide information and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities in the school
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and facilitation skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels
- Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders
