The Collection Management Branch is responsible for transferring, storing, preserving and digitising the National Archives' collection so it remains accessible for future generations. The Branch develops policies and systems as well as provides services, undertakes research, and implements projects to ensure the care, management and accessibility of archival records. The Branch is also responsible for identifying information management requirements for Australian Government agencies to ensure Australian Government information assets (records, information and data) are created, collected and managed effectively.

The Collection Operations Section is responsible for securing and managing the National Archives’ archival collection and its storage environment in the Australian Capital Territory. The section is also responsible for processing records of significance transferred into custody, managing projects, lending services, transfers and various national strategies, plans and programs.

Under general direction the main duties of the role are to:

- Supervise a team delivering effective and efficient lending services and record-based projects.
- Supervise the retrieval, return, control and storage of archival records, using systems to support those activities and resolve complex system anomalies.
- Mentor staff in the use of the National Archives’ electronic records systems within established procedures and practices.
- Provide input to section and branch reports and statistics as required.
- Provide advice and guidance in line with the current National Archives’ procedures for lending services.
- Liaise with National Archives staff and external stakeholders to maintain standards of service and ensure work targets are monitored and analysed.
- Identify and put forward ideas to resolve or mitigate problems and contribute to and participate in the National Archives’ change agenda.
- Assist in the training and development of staff including physical records handling training. Ensure that Work, Health and Safety issues are identified, reported and monitored.

**Eligibility**: Applicants must be Australian Citizens. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance.

You must be willing and be able to meet the inherent physical requirements of this role which includes working between repositories and office areas completing repetitive, sedentary, screen-based work and/or the ability to pack, sort, lift (up to 7kg) and relocate records in accordance with established work health and safety practices and archival principles.
