**The opportunity**

This is a new role, where you will provide support to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and lead a small team of in-house lawyers

As a key influencer of legal outcomes, this role will deliver and lead key corporate support functions and services across a broad breadth of legal practice areas, particularly commercial and contract law, land acquisitions, regulatory compliance, planning and environment, administrative law, FOI, privacy, and governance principles.

**Responsibilities**
- Provide accurate and pragmatic legal advice, often in a time-pressured operational context.
- Act as independent counsel to the Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team on legal and governance issues as required
- Oversee the implementation of precedent contracts and other legal agreements aligned with legal and regulatory requirements and in accordance with government policy
- Provide direction, coaching and support to build and maintain a successful team capable of delivering practical and effective services across the business
- Develop external relationships with a panel of law firms

**Skills & Experience**
- Bachelor of Laws and admission to practice as an Australian legal practitioner under the _Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act_ 2014
- Substantial professional experience in contracts and commercial law, land acquisitions and regulatory compliance
- Proven ability to work under broad direction and deliver to set timeframes.
- Experience in briefing external legal services providers and, providing legal advice in a pragmatic and practical business orientated focus
- Confidence to professionally resolve issues that impact the business and a diverse range of external groups
- Demonstrated leaderships skills overseeing a team of lawyers complimented with experience in fostering a positive and productive team environment
