The objective of our program is to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to complete the Traineeship, with a view to establishing a career in Water Industry Operations or Treatment.

**GENERAL INFORMATION**:
The Traineeship program requires the successful applicants to enter a Training Contract for up to 2 years, commencing in January 2023.

As part of their individual Training Plans Trainees are required to undertake and complete a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations course at either a NSW TAFE Campus or through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Trainees commence as a 1st year Trainee and are trained under the instruction of a suitably qualified supervisor. You may be required to rotate between job locations to nurture on-the-job experience for the duration of the Traineeship. **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The successful Trainees' primary responsibility in the position is to obtain the knowledge, skills and competence through tertiary qualifications and on-the-job training.

As a Wastewater Treatment Trainee you will assist in the operation and maintenance of Council’s Wastewater and Recycled Water Treatment Plants to ensure compliance with regulations such as Environmental Protection Authority License and Recycling Water Guidelines, through collection and analysis of samples and reviewing systems data. You will also assist with cleaning and maintaining plant, equipment and building and undertaking general grounds maintenance and by-product disposal as required.

As a Water Treatment Trainee you will assist in all aspects of treatment plant operation and maintenance to treat water in accordance with regulatory requirements, including the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and Environmental Protection Authority Licence conditions, by undertaking water quality analysis and recording data. You will also complete building and yard maintenance and learn to respond to computerised alarm notifications and control systems.

**What a 'day in the job' could look like**:

- Complete varied and hands on technical duties that are carried out in a Wastewater Treatment Plant or Water Treatment Plant, Dams & Water Transfer stations;
- Collect samples and analyse water quality to ensure environmental compliance;
- Work in a team environment with a strong focus on safety;
- Complete formal studies and receive on the job mentoring from experienced tradespeople.
