The Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of it’s kind in Australia. **About the role**
Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making encourages family members, extended family, Elders, Significant others in the child’s life and where appropriate the child and/or young person, to meet and make decisions about the safety and wellbeing of children and/or young people who are involved in the Child Protection system.
The primary purpose of Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making(AFLDM) is to provide for the protection of Aboriginal children and young people through the involvement of family, culturally relevant practice and the promotion of community connections.
The AFLDM model is based on the following assumptions:

- children have a right to have their wider family participate in decisions that affect them
- families are competent to make decisions if properly engaged, prepared and provided with necessary information
- decisions made within families are more likely to succeed than those imposed by outsiders.

**About You**
- Cultural knowledge and connectedness to the community
- Ability to work with Aboriginal families and Elders in culturally appropriate ways
- Demonstrated ability to convene and mediate outcomes with groups
- Experience, or formal qualifications in Social Work, Family Support, or Family Welfare desirable
- **Requirement**: Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Drivers Licence.
