The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

**The Team**

The AEC has a dispersed network of 151 electoral divisions, 50 of which are located across New South Wales and the ACT including State Office in the Sydney CBD and several single and multi-divisional office sites across the state.

The Project Officers position supports the Team Leaders and Senior Project Officers and work alongside a small dynamic team.

For the delivery of a federal election or by-elections, staffing rapidly expands to help manage the increased workload around risk management, fast moving project work and logístical activities, media, and public scrutiny.

**The Opportunities**

The Project Officers assists in the day-to-day management of matters relating to the corporate governance and election readiness functions. This includes administrating, planning, and coordinating short term tasks and longer-term initiatives. During an election event, the Project Officer will deliver key election projects as required.

The Project Officers needs to be flexible, organised, goal-oriented, able to clearly communicate results and focused on delivering high quality outcomes within strict timeframes.

To excel you’ll have:

- A demonstrated ability to provide administrative support, accurately record project progression and complete tasks within strict timeframes.
- Experience assisting with the planning, scheduling, and completion of components of projects and an ability to check project progress including monitoring schedules and checking budget data.
- An ability to conduct research and analysis as required and reach evidence-based conclusions to assist in the management, preparation and coordination of procedures and delivery of projects.
- An ability to remain positive and respond to increased levels of pressure in a calm manner, while achieving goals within tight timeframes and responding to competing and changing priorities.
- A demonstrated ability to manage increased workloads in the context of tight timeframes and to maintain key internal and external relationships, including liaising with stakeholders on project or operational issues, and responding to stakeholder needs and expectations.
- Exercise independent judgement and resolve workplace issues with a degree of guidance and monitoring from management.
- To work independently and remotely from your manager on occasions.
