A global centre-of-excellence, it integrates Cardiac Physiology and Transplantation, Developmental and Stem Cell Biology, Molecular Cardiology and Biophysics, Structural and Computational Biology, as well as Vascular Biology. At the Institute, we translate our discoveries into new diagnostics, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular disease - reducing the incidence, severity and impact of heart disease.

**Your next career opportunity**:
The newly created role of Legal Officer will work on matters covering a broad suite of legal advisory and governance (both research and corporate) issues, including hands-on review and drafting of a broad range of legal documents.

Reporting to the Legal, Governance & Compliance Manager, this position will work closely with the Institute's Faculty and Operations Managers on a broad range of matters. The role will also interact with a range of external stakeholders.

- Negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts involving the Institute, both research-based and operational
- Mitigation and management of corporate risk, including compliance
- Management and implementation of the Institute's policies and protocolsAdvising on research integrity and research governance compliance
- Advising on intellectual property issues and privacy obligations
- Management of data governance systems and processes

**Does this sound like you?****:

- Tertiary qualification in law and admitted to practice as a solicitor in Australia, holding a current practising certificate.
- Up to 3 years' experience gained from a combination of private practice and/or in-house roles.
- Solid experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, and general corporate matters, ideally including matters relating to governance and risk management.
- Exceptional writing skills, including expertise in writing reports, letters, policies, deeds, agreements, contracts and internal and external communications.
- Excellent oral communication skills and an ability to express complex concepts and present complicated issues clearly, concisely and succinctly.
- Strong problem solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work autonomously, in small teams, and with a wide range of varying stakeholders with a demonstrated ability to act with integrity in all matters.
- Experience within a medical research institute and/or the not-for-profit sector will be advantageous.
