Breaking homelessness is more complicated than just finding housing - it requires a holistic and specialist community-based approach. The team at Karinya Support Services in Ballarat are committed to providing this to families and enhance the outcomes for children and young people.

At any time, up to 80 women and children live in short
- and medium-term crisis accommodation units as part of Programs MEA (Mothers Emergency Accommodation) and Program MaC (Mother and Children). Karinya also supports clients in the Young Families Connected Program and has a children’s worker who provides more targeted and specialised support.

Why this role matters

As the Lead Practitioner you will deliver, support and drive high quality, safe and effective family violence and child well-being responses to those seeking assistance through the Family Violence stream of Karinya Support Services.

Your pro-active mind-set will be instrumental in delivering Primary Prevention, Early Intervention and Supporting Families Services within the Karinya Support Service.

With your social service experience and demonstrated supervision skills you will effectively and efficiently provide operational support, leadership and direct support to students undertaking Social Work placements within the program.

Important responsibilities include:

- Provide case management support to clients in accordance with TSA case management models and standards of practice
- Conduct ongoing assessment is made of the client’s issues, needs and circumstances from initial intake to exit
- Ensure individual case plans are developed in collaboration with clients and include a range of interventions that address the needs or goals of clients
- Ensure case plans are implemented and actively led by the participant
- Clients are assisted to access holistic support services and establish community connections, and where needed are assisted through advocacy with service providers
- Progress outcomes of individual case plans are regularly monitored and reviewed and where needed action is taken to ensure the plan continues to meet client needs or goals

We are offering a part-time permanent position, 30.4 hours per week, based at our Ballarat service. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award, Level 6.

To be successful in this role, we are seeking:

- Degree qualification in Social Work, Welfare, Community Development or related field OR demonstrated high level of sector knowledge and skills attained through previous appointments, service and study/development
- Experience working in the family violence sector is desirable
- Experience in specialist family violence and/ or child wellbeing work is highly desirable
- Demonstrated case management skills and experience
- Demonstrated experience supervising and coaching teams
- Demonstrated experience in effectively dealing with the impact of trauma
- Highly developed time management and work prioritisation skills with an ability to work autonomously with mínimal supervision
- Advance computer skills including experience in data and record management
- Relevant Employee VIC Working with Children Check
- A National Police Record Check is required
