About us
Access and Equity plays a key role in the shared strategic goal of progressing equity, diversity and inclusion at Edith Cowan University. The area is responsible for providing high quality services to students, delivering enabling programs, and embedding evidenced-based equitable and inclusive practice across the institution.
The Access and Inclusion team provides expert support for students and staff in the management, administration and coordination of student equity, diversity and disability services. This involves supporting the participation and success of students who live with a permanent or temporary disability, medical or mental health conditions, or have primary carer responsibilities, as well as support for students who are neurodivergent. This role works closely with numerous internal and external stakeholders to support inclusion and collaboration with the goal of maximising retention, success and employability.
Your Opportunity
Reporting to the Coordinator, Access and Inclusion, the Accessibility Adviser meets regularly with students who require educational adjustments or other arrangements to be made to enable them to participate in higher education on an equitable basis. Under broad direction and in alignment with relevant policies and legislation, the Accessibility Adviser determines support requirements and develops individualised Learning Access Plans with students, and collaborates with staff to understand implementation of Learning Access Plans.
The Accessibility Adviser also collaboratively develops and delivers coordinated group/cohort programs to enhance student success in higher education, as well as promoting the adoption of inclusive practice and universal design principles throughout the student lifecycle.
Working within a high functioning team, the Accessibility Adviser is expected to actively contribute to a quality student service culture, actively promote collaboration and information exchange within and across teams, maintain timely, accurate and complete records using administrative systems, and maintain knowledge of current best practice in the equity and disability fields.
The position has responsibility for monitoring compliance of equal opportunity legislation in the provision of services to students.
Key Criteria
Tertiary qualification in health sciences, social work, disability or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
Demonstrated capability to deliver high quality, specialist support to individuals, with proven ability to identify and analyse required information to resolve complex problems.
Contemporary and comprehensive knowledge and experience working with relevant legislation, policies, processes and guidelines related to equity, diversity and disability and equal opportunity.
Strong organisational skills including a demonstrated ability to independently coordinate multiple processes, prioritise tasks, and work effectively and efficiently to deadlines and within relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a diverse range of people, and with ability to build rapport and form positive working relationships
Ability to influence the decisions, actions or perceptions of others and to be collaborative and collegial when doing so.
Relevant experience in the higher education sector and/or knowledge of working with an academic environment is highly desirable.

Travel between campuses is a requirement of the position.
Benefits & Remuneration
This full-time, fixed term position attracts remuneration of $100,512 to $112,622 PA (pro rata for part-time) (HEW 7) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
