THE ROLE

This new fixed term role is in Macquarie University’s Teaching & Leadership Job Family. The successful applicant will be expected to: develop and convene units in Japanese Studies at undergraduate levels; contribute to a culture of scholarship; engage with relevant stakeholders in the community and industry, including through externally-funded projects; and make contributions to the administration of the Department, Faculty and University.

The Macquarie University Academic Job Family Framework recognises and rewards the breadth of academic work. The Teaching & Leadership Academic is a specialist role for Academic staff who dedicate their workload contribution to Teaching, Teaching Leadership, (70%) and Service (30%). This role is required to demonstrate leadership in the design of curriculum and assessment delivery.

To Apply- Native speaker equivalent competency of Japanese and professional English- PhD focusing on Japanese language and / or culture- Demonstrated teaching experience in Japanese Studies- Experience in co-ordinating and delivering high quality learning and teaching, including the design, delivery, and management of diverse teaching activities and formats, and support staffing pools in large teaching units- Demonstrated innovation in pedagogy, teaching practice, and online learning with positive outcomes- Demonstrated success in the academic leadership and the delivery, development and implementation of projects using engaging and innovative approaches, including evidence of positive outcomes- Extensive knowledge of educational and professional sectors in Japan- Proven linguistically and culturally appropriate communication skills and professional written Japanese, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds and to represent the Department to external stakeholders in Australia, Japan and around the world and to the general public including managing projects with external organisations
